NMC CBT Overview
The NMC Test of Competence is part of the UK registration process for many internationally trained nurses and midwives who wish to practise in the UK. Candidates must first submit an online application to the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The NMC will then confirm whether they need to complete the Test of Competence.
Part 1 of the Test of Competence is a Computer Based Test. The CBT is a three-hour examination consisting of two modules:
Part A: Numeracy
15 Questions | 30 Minutes
Covers medication calculations, oral medications, injections, IV drip rates, fluid balance, and unit conversions.
Part B: Clinical
100 Questions | 2.5 Hours
Covers clinical knowledge, patient safety, critical scenarios, NHS guidelines, NMC code, infection control, and professional values.
